In the past, many people thought data leaks only meant credit card fraud or spam messages. But recent global cybersecurity incidents have shown a harsh truth: data risks no longer stay online. They can now put our home safety—and even our lives—at risk. When online orders can reveal door codes, or a government form can be turned into a target list for armed groups, society is being forced to face a new kind of crisis: “data exposure.”

Compared with financial loss, the data leak at Coupang, South Korea’s largest e-commerce company, made people realize how fragile real-world safety can be. The incident affected 33.7 million users. A former employee used a security key that was still active to access data without permission. The investigation sounded like a movie. To hide evidence, the suspect smashed a laptop, put it in a bag filled with bricks, and threw it into a river. The most worrying detail was that the leaked data included 2,609 door-entry codes.
