New Taipei Sets Wildlife Rescue Guidelines to Improve Release Decisions

The New Taipei City Animal Protection Office announced new wildlife rescue evaluation guidelines on March 3, World Wildlife Day. The Animal Protection Office worked with professional academic groups to develop a scientific assessment system as a reference for frontline rescue workers.

In recent years, the number of rescued animals in New Taipei City increased from 2,246 in 2022 to 5,417 last year, so the office promoted a standard operating procedure. The new guidelines include behavior and survival ability in the wild to avoid rushed release. The office will continue to collect practical feedback and revise the guidelines on a rolling basis to ensure wildlife rescue work better meets real-world needs.

After TSMC founder Morris Chang returned as chairman in 2009, he found that the company had more than 2,000 contract workers whose pay and benefits were clearly lower. Morris Chang believed that a company should not have “second-class employees,” so he decided to convert all contract workers into full-time staff.

The company spent eight months on planning and communication, and finally 2,400 workers completed the transfer process. During the reform, Morris Chang did not ask about the cost and stressed that core values cannot be compromised. Many employees later expressed their thanks and said that the decision changed their lives.
