Middle East Conflict Pushes Up Oil Prices, Global Inflation on Alert

After the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, the situation in the Middle East quickly worsened, and regional tensions clearly increased. Because of the fighting, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has almost stopped, and several oil-producing countries have begun to cut production, causing turmoil in the energy market.

International oil prices once surged past 110 dollars per barrel, while U.S. stock futures also fell, with Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dropping more than 800  points. Markets worry that rising energy prices may further affect the global economy and increase inflation pressure.

Taiwan Fans’ Cheering Shakes Tokyo Dome in WBC Taiwan–Korea Game

The World Baseball Classic held a game between Taiwan and South Korea at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on March 8. Many Taiwanese fans came to the stadium to cheer for Team Taiwan, and the cheering continued one after another, creating a very exciting atmosphere.

Whenever a player hit a base hit or completed a defensive play, the crowd burst into loud cheers. Japanese media and online users also noticed this strong support and said that even though it was not a game of the Japanese team, the stadium was still almost full. The passionate cheering from Taiwanese fans also became another focus of attention during the game.

Fear AI Could Turn Into a Weapon? OpenAI Executive Quits in Protest

OpenAI signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense in late February, sparking controversy. The head of its robotics division, Kalinowski, announced her resignation, saying that monitoring citizens without judicial oversight or giving weapons autonomous lethal capabilities would cross an unacceptable line.

The cooperation triggered backlash from employees and users. Calls to stop using ChatGPT appeared on social media, while some people praised Anthropic for refusing to work with the military. As a result, many users also switched to the Claude model.

When Brands Take a Stand, Fans Become More Loyal

Ben & Jerry’s has long made social advocacy the core of its brand, with a strong focus on fairness and shared good in everything from ingredient sourcing to partner selection. By openly supporting social and environmental issues, the brand has not lost customers but has instead built strong consumer trust and identification.

According to a report released by a marketing agency, as many as seventy-three percent of Ben & Jerry’s consumers aged twenty-five to forty-five made repeat purchases within six months, showing that brand values can effectively turn into high customer loyalty.

Why the Past Seems More Beautiful? Experts Suggest Limiting Nostalgia to Three Times a Week

Psychology suggests that people’s episodic memories of the past are not completely accurate. Remembering is actually a process in which the brain reconstructs memories. Influenced by perception and imagination, the brain may selectively soften negative details and even fill in missing parts of a memory, making the past seem more pleasant.

Experts remind people that thinking about the past can bring short-term comfort, but comparing memories with present life too often may harm mental and physical health. They suggest limiting nostalgic thoughts to no more than three times a week. If someone finds it hard to move on from the past, practicing mindfulness can help bring attention back to the present.

Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.

  • Rising tensions between the United States and Iran pushed global oil prices above 110 dollars, and raising fears that higher energy costs could slow economic growth.

  • During the WBC Taiwan–Korea game at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, l. nonstop cheering from Taiwanese fans created a lively atmosphere that caught the attention of Japanese media and online users.

  • Controversy grew after OpenAI partnered with the U.S. Department of Defense, causing internal protests and a shift of some users to other AI tools.

  • By placing social advocacy at the center of its brand, Ben & Jerry’s has strengthened consumer trust and turned shared values into high repeat purchase loyalty.

  • Research shows that people’s memories are not always exact, and experts advise avoiding frequent nostalgia to maintain better health.

In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
