Lai Ching-te Shares Three Medical Visions at WHA! Says Taiwan in WHO Would Help Global Cooperation
The 79th World Health Assembly opened in Geneva. President Lai Ching-te delivered a video speech at a forum held by Taiwan’s WHA Action Team. He said Taiwan continues to take part in global health affairs and outlined three policy goals: digital health and AI governance, cancer policy innovation, and the elimination of Hepatitis C.
Taiwan is promoting medical AI governance, a cancer drug fund, and health insurance reform. It has also reached its goal of eliminating hepatitis C five years ahead of the WHO’s target. Lai said Taiwan’s WHO membership would help protect people’s right to health and strengthen global public health cooperation.
Missed the Legal Deadline! Elon Musk Loses Lawsuit Against OpenAI
A U.S. federal jury ruled that Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft, and others was filed too late, giving OpenAI a legal victory. Musk said OpenAI’s move toward a for-profit business model went against its original nonprofit mission, but the court rejected this argument.
If the court had ordered OpenAI to return to a nonprofit structure, the decision could have affected its initial public offering plan and its partnerships with major investors such as Microsoft, Amazon, and SoftBank. After the ruling, OpenAI’s lawyer said the lawsuit was aimed at harming a competitor, while Musk said he would file an appeal with the Ninth Circuit.
Not Only Apple and Nvidia! President Trump Takes a Stake in Kura Sushi
A new financial report shows that Trump bought shares in Apple, Nvidia, and other tech companies in the first quarter. He also took a stake in Kura Sushi USA worth between $1 million and $5 million, sparking discussion among Japanese netizens. After the news was reported, Kura Sushi’s shares in Tokyo rose as much as 5.4% during trading.
Trump’s team made more than 3,700 trades in the first quarter, raising concerns about possible conflicts of interest. In response, a Trump Organization spokesperson said the assets were managed independently by third-party financial institutions, and that Trump, his family, and his businesses were not involved in the trading decisions.
Restaurant Market Shows M-Shaped Trend as NT$200 to NT$400 Restaurants Disappear
A restaurant industry consultant says Taiwan’s food market is showing a clear M-shaped trend. Budget meals under NT$200 and gathering-style restaurants above NT$600 have become the main choices, while mid-priced restaurants between NT$200 and NT$400 are gradually decreasing because their market position is unclear.
The share of restaurants in department stores continues to grow, and food courts are also seeing the rise of higher-priced “shop-in-shop” dining spaces. Experts say the key to competition in the restaurant industry is no longer long waiting lines, but whether customers are willing to come back again.
Why Do We Forget the Moment We Enter a Room? Decoding the Psychology of the "Doorway Effect"
Researchers have found that when people walk through a doorway, their memory gets worse and their reaction becomes slower. This phenomenon is called the “Doorway Effect.”
Psychologists explain that the brain treats “walking through a door” as the end of an event. When we enter a new environment, the brain automatically clears out old information to prepare for new situations. While this system helps us focus on new tasks, it sometimes causes temporary memory loss.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Taiwan highlighted its health policy progress at the WHA forum and said WHO membership would support both Taiwan and global health cooperation.
OpenAI avoided a major legal threat after a U.S. federal jury ruled against Musk’s challenge to its for-profit direction.
Trump’s first-quarter stock activity drew attention after a Kura Sushi investment and raised new questions about possible conflicts of interest.
Taiwan’s restaurant market is becoming M-shaped, as budget and higher-priced dining grow while mid-priced restaurants decline.
Researchers have discovered that the “doorway effect” acts as a mental boundary, causing our brains to purge recent memories when we walk through a door.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
