Trump Assassination Plot? Tensions Rise After Khamenei’s Burial
Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was buried on July 9. The United States and Iran also entered another military conflict on the same day. Large crowds gathered at the funeral, and some people shouted calls for revenge. Khamenei’s successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, has still not appeared in public since taking office.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the same day that Israel had provided the United States with new intelligence. The information suggested that Iran may be planning to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump. The report further raised tensions between the United States and Iran and increased concerns that the conflict in the Middle East could continue to expand.
U.S. Backs Raymond Greene, Says Policy Toward Taiwan Remains Unchanged
Raymond Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan, recently said that Taiwan should build a defense network made up of large numbers of drones to strengthen its ability to prevent conflict. He added that the United States was willing to provide support. China’s Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council criticized the remarks as spreading false information and demanded that the United States stop interfering.
The U.S. Department of State responded that China’s accusations were completely unfounded and that Greene fully represented the position of the U.S. government. The United States stressed that its Taiwan policy had not changed. It would continue to support Taiwan in obtaining the defense capabilities it needs and urged Beijing to stop putting pressure on Taiwan and hold talks with Taiwan’s democratically elected government without preconditions.
Japan’s Economy Improves Slightly, but Over 5,000 Firms Still Fail
Japan’s Cabinet Office reported that the Economy Watchers Survey rose slightly to 44 in June. The increase shows that frontline service workers became a little more positive about the economy. Market observers believe the improvement was linked to a temporary easing of tensions in the Middle East.
However, 5,346 companies in Japan still went bankrupt in the first half of this year. This marked the second straight year in which more than 5,000 companies failed during the same period. Analysts said rising energy prices, higher costs, and labor shortages continue to hurt small and medium-sized businesses. These pressures are also making Japan’s economic recovery more difficult.
Sushiro Launches Digital Store in Taiwan, Virtual Conveyor Belt Draws Attention
Sushiro has launched a new “DIGIRO” digital store at Breeze Nan Shan in Taipei. The new store uses large screens to replace the traditional conveyor belt system. Customers can order food through the screen, and the dishes are then delivered through a direct delivery lane. The company said this can improve food safety and create a more interactive dining experience.
Digital systems can help increase ordering frequency, raise average spending per customer, and improve operational efficiency. The company said its digital store format currently does not charge a 5% service fee and is also offering limited menu items and promotional events. The market is also watching whether this new business model can further improve the customer dining experience.
Scorching Heatwave! Air Conditioning Becomes Europe's New Dilemma
Europe is facing an unprecedented heat wave, with temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius becoming the norm. In the past, the demand for air conditioning in Europe was low because installation costs and electricity bills are extremely high, combined with the fact that ancient buildings make installation difficult and strict building regulations create limitations, resulting in an air conditioning adoption rate of only about twenty percent across Europe.
To help cope with this emergency, the city government of Prague has launched the “Cool Oases” online interactive map, which integrates two hundred and fifty cooling stations including free drinking fountains and shaded parks. It is estimated that the number of air conditioners in the European Union will reach 275 million units by 2050.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Iran’s conflict with the United States intensified after Khamenei’s burial, as new intelligence suggested a possible Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump.
The United States rejected China’s criticism of Raymond Greene and reaffirmed its unchanged policy and continued support for Taiwan.
Japan’s economy improved slightly in June, but rising costs and labor shortages still pushed more than 5,000 companies into bankruptcy.
Sushiro’s new DIGIRO digital stores are attracting attention with large-screen ordering systems, no service fee, and a more interactive dining experience.
Europe is battling an intense heatwave, but air conditioning remains rare due to high electricity costs, historical building designs, and strict regulations.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
