日本熊本縣在 7 月 28 日發生規模 7.1 強震，截至當地時間 29 日上午 8 時 30 分，已有 13 人死亡。嘉島町永旺夢樂城因建築崩塌與瓦斯外洩發生爆炸，多人受困，搜救人員仍持續在現場尋找失聯者。
強震也造成列車出軌、工廠煙囪倒塌及大規模停電，九州多地交通一度中斷。日本政府已派遣自衛隊投入救援，並提醒居民未來一週仍可能發生強烈餘震。
Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake Strikes Kumamoto! Mall Explosion Leaves People Missing
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, on July 28, and 13 people had been confirmed dead as of 8:30 a.m. local time on July 29 . Part of AEON Mall Kumamoto in Kashima collapsed, and a gas leak caused an explosion. Several people remain trapped, while rescue teams continue searching the site for those still missing.
The powerful earthquake also caused a train to derail, a factory chimney to collapse, and widespread power outages. Transportation across many parts of Kyushu was temporarily disrupted. The Japanese government has sent members of the Self-Defense Forces to support rescue operations and warned residents that strong aftershocks may still occur over the next week.

Global Chip Stocks Tumble! Taiwan Stocks Plunge 2,030 Points
Reports that China had made a breakthrough in DUV lithography sent global chip stocks sharply lower on July 28. South Korean stocks briefly triggered a circuit breaker, while Taiwan stocks fell 2,030 points to close at 41,603, breaking below the previous low.
Analysts believe Taiwan’s stock market correction may not be over, making the 40,000-point level an important mark to watch. Three signals may show that the market is beginning to stabilize: the broader market and TSMC moving back above their five-day moving averages, foreign investors no longer increasing their short positions in index futures, and the margin balance continuing to fall.

立法院 7 月 28 日三讀刪除兄弟姊妹特留分，新法將在公布 6 個月後施行。單身族或無子女夫妻只要立下合法遺囑，就能把全部遺產留給配偶、伴侶或實際照顧自己的人。
不過，兄弟姊妹的法定繼承順位沒有改變。民眾若未訂立遺囑，手足仍可能依法分產，因此修法後，事先訂立有效遺囑更加重要。
Compulsory Portion of Siblings Removed! More Freedom for Singles and Child-Free Couples
On July 28, the Legislative Yuan passed a law removing the compulsory portion of siblings. The new rule will take effect six months after it is officially announced. Singles and married couples without children will be able to leave all of their property to a spouse, partner, or the person who actually cared for them, as long as they make a valid will.
However, the legal order of inheritance for siblings will not change. If a person dies without leaving a will, their siblings may still inherit part of the estate under the law. This means that making a valid will in advance will become even more important after the new rule takes effect.

Apple Once Faced Bankruptcy Within Six Weeks, but Steve Jobs Built a Four-Trillion-Dollar Empire
Apple was founded nearly 50 years ago. After Steve Jobs left the company, Apple faced product confusion and a serious business crisis. At one point, the company reportedly had only about six weeks of funds left and even considered selling itself at a low price. After Jobs returned, he refocused on a small number of products and stressed simple design and a complete user experience.
Apple later launched products including iMac, iPhone, and iPad. Tim Cook also expanded the company into wearable devices, payment services, and chip design. Apple’s market value passed four trillion U.S. dollars last year, completing one of the most remarkable business turnarounds in technology history.
