U.S. and Iran Begin New Talks? Trump Cancels Large-Scale Attack
U.S. President Trump announced that he had canceled a large-scale attack on Iran and began a new round of talks on August 3. He said the decision followed advice from U.S. allies and that he hoped diplomacy could quickly remove Iran’s nuclear threat and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
As the United States paused the planned attack, an oil tanker exploded off the coast of Oman, but no one was injured. Iran later said it would reach an agreement with Oman on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, while stressing that the waterway would not fully reopen. Markets are now closely watching how the talks develop.
U.S. and Japan Step In to Support the Japanese Yen, Trump Says the Partnership Is Growing Stronger
U.S. President Trump confirmed that the United States and Japan had worked together to support the Japanese yen, helping it recover. He said the move reflected the close friendship between the two countries and added that the United States expected to gain financial benefits while supporting its ally.
Following the announcement, the yen rose by as much as 0.3% in early trading to around 157 yen per dollar. Markets are closely watching to see whether the two countries will step in again, while the joint intervention is also seen as a sign of deeper cooperation between the United States and Japan.
Philippines Sets Baselines Around Democracy Reef, Taiwan Calls for Inclusion in Regional Talks
On July 31, the Philippines deposited an official nautical chart of Panatag Shoal and its surrounding maritime zones with the United Nations, formally setting out its territorial sea baselines. On August 2, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded, saying it opposed any unilateral action that could change the current situation or expand territorial claims.
The ministry said disputes in the South China Sea should be settled peacefully under international law and four key principles. It also stressed that Taiwan is directly involved in the issue and should not be excluded from regional talks or multilateral discussions. The government will continue to monitor the situation and urge all sides to maintain regional peace and security through dialogue.
AI Reshapes the Workplace, Soft Skills Become a Key Advantage
Former Google Taiwan Managing Director Chien Lee-Feng said that AI is rapidly changing the workplace. As AI gradually takes over tasks such as programming and data processing, companies are raising their expectations for employees. In addition to professional skills, workers also need broader cross-disciplinary thinking and stronger business awareness.
He said that the advantages humans are least likely to lose to AI include questioning, communication, empathy, teamwork, and leadership. Making good use of AI and gaining practical experience will be key to staying competitive in the future workplace.
Younger Generations Embrace Short Trips! Let Micro-cations Save You from Burnout
In recent years, Gen Z and millennials have started a new travel trend called “micro-cations.” These trips usually last only 2 to 4 days, or even just 1 day, and the focus is not on how far people go, but on switching life scenes in a short time to let the brain temporarily reset.
Facing high work pressure, digital fatigue, and unclear boundaries between work and life, young people place more value on digital detox, local experiences, and emotional relaxation. However, experts remind us that micro-cations can only offer short-term relief. The real key remains rest and boundaries in daily life.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Trump canceled a planned attack on Iran and turned to new talks aimed at reducing the nuclear threat and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States and Japan worked together to support the yen, while Trump said the move reflected stronger bilateral ties.
The Philippines announced baselines around Democracy Reef, while Taiwan rejected unilateral actions and urged peaceful talks that include Taiwan.
The former Google Taiwan Managing Director said that as AI transforms the workplace, soft skills will become essential for staying competitive.
Micro-cations show how younger generations are using short trips to reset from burnout, but lasting recovery still depends on daily rest and healthy boundaries.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
