Jensen Huang Not Joining Trump’s China Visit, Speculation Grows Over Restrictions on AI Chip Cooperation
Several foreign media outlets reported that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was not included in the business delegation for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China. The White House said the trip will focus mainly on agriculture and commercial aviation.
Market analysts said Huang’s absence may show that Nvidia is facing difficulties in selling AI chip sales to China. The U.S. government is also believed to be sending a signal to China through this move, signaling tighter restrictions on advanced AI chip cooperation.
Taiwan’s Average Monthly Salary Reaches 48,000, but 70% Earn Less
Taiwan’s Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics released the latest salary data on May 11. In March, the average regular monthly salary for employees reached NT$48,768. After adding bonuses and overtime pay, the average total salary rose to NT$57,509, marking the highest growth for the same period in 16 years.
However, the statistics also showed that about 70% of employees earn less than the average salary. The agency said the AI industry has helped boost higher salaries, but it has also widened the overall income gap.
Stricter Visa Rules in Japan Lead to Closures of Foreign Restaurants
Many foreign restaurants in Japan have recently closed down. Japanese media reported that the Japanese government has greatly raised the requirements for visas to prevent foreigners from abusing the Business Manager Visa and National Health Insurance, putting financial and staffing pressure on many foreign restaurant owners.
Under the new rules, foreign business owners must meet higher capital requirements and hire qualified employees. There are also concerns that labor shortages and visa restrictions may later affect industries such as construction and long-term care, which rely heavily on foreign workers.
Robot Vacuum Pioneer Falls, AI Reshapes Competition in Tech Products
The American robot vacuum brand iRobot was once a market pioneer. However, as Chinese brands rose quickly and product innovation pressure increased, its market position was gradually overtaken. iRobot reacted more slowly in product updates and user experience, which weakened its competitiveness.
AI is now changing the competition in the hardware industry. Some new brands have directly integrated AI into product functions. This allows devices to recognize environments and objects and improve the user experience. Experts say that in the future, the key competitiveness of hardware products will depend on the ability to integrate AI with hardware.
AI Slop Takes Over Feeds! Experts Warn of Worse Brain Rot
Meta and YouTube are being flooded with low-quality AI-generated posts and videos, while platform algorithms continue to amplify this type of content, leaving users constantly overwhelmed by repetitive and empty information.
Scholars warn that long-term exposure to this kind of shallow content may worsen the “brain rot” effect, weakening attention spans and judgment skills while also affecting overall digital habits.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was absent from Trump’s China business delegation, raising market concerns that U.S.-China cooperation on advanced AI chips may face growing restrictions.
Taiwan’s average salary has continued to rise with support from the AI industry, but most workers still earn below the average as the income gap keeps widening.
Japan’s stricter visa rules are causing many foreign restaurants to shut down, while raising concerns about future labor shortages in the industries that rely heavily on foreign workers.
The fall of robot vacuum pioneer iRobot shows how companies that fail to integrate AI quickly into their products may lose competitiveness in the rapidly changing technology market.
Experts warn that the growing wave of shallow AI-generated posts and videos may be harming users’ attention and digital behavior.
