NVIDIA Invests US$3.5 Billion in MediaTek, Expanding Their AI Partnership

MediaTek and NVIDIA announced a deeper partnership on August 31, with NVIDIA investing US$3.5 billion in MediaTek’s Euro-Convertible Bond. This time, the partnership will go beyond chips and expand into AI infrastructure, computers, and smart vehicles.

MediaTek will also adopt NVIDIA technologies to help customers develop custom AI chips and large-scale AI computing systems. The two companies will further expand their cooperation into computers and smart vehicles, allowing AI technology to be used in more real-world applications and strengthening MediaTek’s position in the AI market.

Princess Cruises Suddenly Exits Taiwan! Local Sales Operations Come to a Full Stop

Princess Cruises suddenly announced on August 31 that it would shut down its Taiwan website, social media platforms, and local sales operations. Its Taiwan office will also stop accepting new bookings, but the company has not explained the reason for leaving the market. Existing bookings will still receive service and support.

Princess Cruises has used Keelung as a home port or port of call many times in the past and is a well-known international cruise brand in Taiwan. In the future, Taiwanese travelers who want to book a trip will need to use overseas websites instead. The move may also reduce cruise tourism traffic at Keelung Port.

Taiwan’s Manufacturing Sector Turns Stronger After Five Years, Driven by the AI Boom

The Taiwan Institute of Economic Research reported that the manufacturing business indicator returned to the red light for the first time in more than five years in July, showing strong growth. The improvement was driven by strong AI demand, rising orders for new consumer electronics, and a recovery in traditional industries such as petrochemicals, plastics and rubbers.

This recovery is no longer supported by the AI sector alone, as some traditional industries are also beginning to grow. However, the indicator has only just moved above the red-light level, and the tech sector will face a high base period in the second half of the year. It remains uncertain how long this manufacturing strength can continue.

Do Not Just Hold Back at Work, Learn How to Repair Emotional Damage

Surveys show that many Taiwanese workers are afraid to express their true emotions and do not know how to make things right after losing their temper. As different generations work together and remote work becomes more common, emotional misunderstandings are more likely to cause workplace conflict.

Experts say real emotional management does not mean simply holding feelings back. It means taking the initiative to apologize, calm down, and communicate again after losing control. Companies should also build a safe communication culture and make emotional repair a basic workplace skill.

A Youthful Memory for Students! School Tuck Shops Are Gradually Disappearing

School tuck shops were once a shared memory for many students in Taiwan, but this familiar campus scene is slowly disappearing. According to the Ministry of Education, the percentage of elementary and junior high schools with school tuck shops has been declining year by year. Many schools have even replaced them with vending machines.

The decline of school tuck shops is due to several factors, including stricter campus food regulations, declining birthrates, limited staff, school lunches, and competition from convenience stores. While this reflects Taiwan’s growing focus on children’s health and food safety, it also marks the fading of a warm and nostalgic part of campus culture that may be hard to recreate.

Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.

  • NVIDIA’s US$3.5 billion investment in MediaTek will deepen their partnership and expand their AI cooperation from chips to infrastructure, computers, and smart vehicles.

  • Princess Cruises is leaving the Taiwan market by ending local sales and new bookings, meaning Taiwanese travelers will need to use overseas websites for future cruise reservations.

  • Taiwan’s manufacturing sector returned to strong growth after more than five years, supported by both booming AI demand and a gradual recovery in traditional industries.

  • Workplaces should move beyond emotional suppression by encouraging employees to apologize, calm down, and repair communication after conflicts.

  • Taiwan’s school tuck shops, once a shared memory for generations of students, are gradually disappearing due to strict health policies, declining birthrates, and competition from convenience stores.

In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
