Nuclear Restart Countdown! Taiwan Power Company to Submit Key Report by End of March
On March 22, Premier Cho Jung-tai announced that Taiwan Power Company will submit a restart operation plan for Kuosheng and Maanshan Nuclear Power Plants to the Nuclear Safety Commission by the end of March. He stressed that all safety checks must be completed before any nuclear plant can begin the restart process.
It is worth noting that Taiwan officially achieved its non-nuclear homeland goal on May 17 last year, when Unit 2 of Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant was decommissioned. As for the restart timeline, Premier Cho admitted that it remains uncertain, but expressed hope that the Nuclear Safety Commission will complete its review efficiently.
Iran Refuses to Back Down! The Strait of Hormuz Is Its Last Card
As of March 22, the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran has entered its fourth week. Despite heavy losses, Iran continues to reject ceasefire negotiations. Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz is the key leverage behind its strong stance. Iran believes that blocking the strait will cause global economic pain at a faster rate than the United States can stabilize the situation through military force.
Qatar and Oman attempted to broker a ceasefire in mid-March, but Iran refused to negotiate, insisting that the U.S. and Israel must stop their attacks first. Former U.S. intelligence officer Gerecht warned that the real test for the Iranian government will not come during the bombing, but after it stops.
Largest Male Voyeurism Case Cracked! 4,586 Victims, Over 20,000 Clips Seized
Taichung District Prosecutor Kuo Kuei has cracked Taiwan’s largest voyeurism case, which began in late 2024. Three men spent years posing as female users online, tricking men into nude video calls and secretly recording them. A total of 4,586 people were affected, and over 20,000 sexual images were seized.
Prosecutor Kuo pointed out that the recorded videos were mostly shared in small, niche gay communities online, so many victims had no idea they had been filmed. He emphasized that victims of sexual image crimes are not limited to women, and urged the public to stay alert toward strangers online who actively request nude video calls.
New Book Titles Fall, Why Eslite Is Still Making Money
As the number of new book titles published in Taiwan fell by nearly ten percent, Eslite Bookstore returned to profit in 2024, with annual sales reaching 9.3 million copies, up three percent from a year earlier. Eslite said the number of book-buying members under the age of 29 rose by 118 percent, with manga, animation, and light novels driving reading momentum.
Eslite plans to launch new store formats this year and expand in existing overseas markets, while closing community stores opened during the pandemic and shifting toward spaces with stronger public functions.
In terms of terminal revenue, Eslite aims to reach a scale of NT$30 billion before 2028.
Toxic Lobster Warning! OpenClaw Security Risks Push Users Away
The term “Raising Lobsters,” coined by netizens, refers to OpenClaw, named after its red lobster logo. Unlike traditional AI, it can think independently, use tools across systems, and carry out tasks automatically as a new type of AI agent.
Recently, many users have started to abandon it, as high-level access makes it vulnerable to attacks that can cause data leaks, important files may be deleted by mistake, and heavy use can drive up costs, leading many users to stop using the service.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Taiwan’s nuclear restart is not a question of if, but when and the answer depends entirely on whether safety can be proven first.
Iran may be losing the war on the ground, but as long as it controls the Strait of Hormuz, it believes it still has the power to make the world feel the pain.
Prosecutors uncovered Taiwan’s largest voyeurism case involving male victims, where suspects posed as women online to secretly record men during nude video calls.
Despite fewer new books in Taiwan, Eslite returned to profit in 2024 and is pushing new store formats and overseas growth toward a NT$30 billion goal by 2028.
OpenClaw, nicknamed “Raising Lobsters,” is widely discussed, while growing risks and costs are pushing users to leave.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
