TSMC Trade Secret Leak Case Sentencing, First Case Under National Security Law
The Intellectual Property and Commercial Court has issued a ruling in a case involving the leak of TSMC trade secrets. Former TSMC engineer Chen Li-ming was sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating the National Security Act and the Trade Secrets Act. Several other engineers were also sentenced to prison terms ranging from 2 to 6 years.
Prosecutors said the suspects provided advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology to the equipment company Tokyo Electron Limited. The Court said the case could threaten the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry and Taiwan’s economic security. Tokyo Electron Limited cooperated with the investigation and reached a settlement with TSMC, and was fined and given a suspended sentence.
Iran Proposes Reopening Strait First and Pausing Nuclear Talks, White House Divided
The New York Times reported that the U.S. government has internal divisions over Iran’s latest proposal. Iran suggested reopening the Strait of Hormuz first and temporarily setting aside nuclear negotiations. U.S. President Donald Trump said in a White House meeting that he was not satisfied with the proposal.
Some U.S. officials support continuing keeping the strait blocked to pressure Iran to make concessions. Other officials worry that a long blockade could instead strengthen the influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The United States is also not sure whether Iranian negotiators have received authorization from their leadership to make concessions on the nuclear issue.
Train Collision in Indonesia Leaves 7 Dead, Cause Under Investigation
A train collision occurred in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on April 28. Indonesia’s state railway company KAI said the accident has left at least 7 dead and 81 injured. Rescue workers are continuing search and rescue operations at the scene to find trapped passengers.
Survivors said the commuter train was stopped near Bekasi Timur Station when a long-distance train suddenly crashed into it. The train cars were seriously damaged, and many passengers were squeezed together. The scene quickly fell into chaos. Indonesian police said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Too Many Goals Become Pressure, Focus Brings Better Performance
Many companies set too many performance goals, which can create pressure for employees and affect team performance. If goals lack clear direction, cross-department cooperation, and continuous feedback, they are often difficult to truly implement.
Experts suggest that managers should focus on core tasks and build consensus and support with their team members. With clear goals and proper resource allocation, teams can not only improve efficiency but also build a culture of continuous growth and cooperation.
The AI Transformation Gap, 97% of Staff Still Struggle to Benefit
Reports show a huge gap in AI transformation. While over 70% of executives are excited about the technology, 60% of employees save less than two hours a week. The main reason is that only 3% of workers are true “practitioners,” while most remain stuck with low-value tasks. Furthermore, the time saved is often canceled out by fixing AI hallucinations.
Experts point out that the challenge for companies is no longer just providing tools, but helping employees find specific use cases. Only by turning AI into actual productivity can the transformation become truly meaningful.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Former TSMC engineers were sentenced for leaking trade secrets to Tokyo Electron Limited in the first case under Taiwan’s National Security Act.
The United States is divided over Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz while pausing nuclear talks, with President Donald Trump expressing dissatisfaction.
A train collision near Jakarta killed 7 people and injured dozens after a long-distance train crashed into a stopped commuter train, with the cause still under investigation.
Experts say that when companies set too many goals without clear direction, focusing on key tasks and proper resources can help teams reduce pressure and improve performance.
Despite high executive interest, 97% of workers fail to use AI effectively. The future of corporate AI lies in creating specific workflows rather than just providing basic tools.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
