Armed Incident in Washington, White House Briefly Locked Down
An armed incident occurred near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Secret Service said agents found a suspicious man carrying a firearm. When they tried to question him, the man ran away and opened fire. Agents returned fire, wounded the suspect, and sent him to the hospital.
At the time of the incident, Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade had just passed through the area, but officials said it was not a targeted attack. The incident led to a brief lockdown around the White House. One minor was also slightly injured, and the cause is still under investigation.
Manufacturing Sector Hit Hardest, 264 Companies Cut Working Hours
The Ministry of Labor released the latest statistics, showing that a total of 264 companies in Taiwan have implemented reduced working hours, affecting 3,632 workers. The manufacturing sector is the hardest hit, with the metal and machinery industry making up the largest share. Many companies said they are affected by U.S. tariffs and the global situation.
The Ministry of Labor said the number of workers under reduced working hours is currently stable, with changes mainly seen in small and medium-sized enterprises. Reduced working hours do not mean no pay. Companies must still pay wages not lower than the minimum wage, and they can apply for subsidies to get through the unstable economic period.

Musk’s X Acquisition Delayed Share Disclosure, Fine Sets Record in Filing Cases
The Regulatory Authority accused Elon Musk of failing to report changes in his shareholdings on time before his 2022 acquisition of X, violating related rules. Musk agreed to pay a 1.5 million dollar fine to end a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The SEC said Musk delayed the filing by about 11 days. During that time, he continued to buy shares at lower prices, which may have affected market fairness. Musk did not admit wrongdoing, but agreed to pay the fine and promised not to violate the rules again.

Why Everyone Is Talking About JOMO? Stop Caring Too Much About Others
Information overload and excessive social media use have left many people exhausted by fast-paced modern life. As a result, the JOMO trend is growing overseas, encouraging people to stay offline and post less to ease their fear of missing out.
This trend also encourages people to stop getting overly involved in others’ daily lives and to save their time for the people and things that truly matter. By letting go when needed, they can refocus on themselves and deal with what genuinely requires their attention.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
A gunman near the National Mall was shot by Secret Service agents after opening fire, prompting a brief White House lockdown while authorities confirmed it was not a targeted attack.
Taiwan reports 264 companies cutting working hours affecting over 3,600 workers, while authorities say the situation remains stable and wages are still protected.
Elon Musk will pay a $1.5 million fine to settle an SEC case over an 11-day delay in reporting his Twitter share purchases, which regulators say may have affected market fairness.
Chiayi’s Smart Fish Fish Head Casserole was praised online for its “textbook” crisis response after a food safety controversy involving a cockroach in the soup.
The rise of JOMO is encouraging people to go offline more often, avoid overinvolvement in others’ lives, and focus on their own priorities.
