U.S. Tariff Benefits for Taiwan Take Effect as Auto Parts Tariff Falls to 15%

The U.S. government officially announced non-semiconductor Section 232 Tariff Relief for Taiwan on May 28. The move is intended to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Investment Cooperation between Taiwan and the United States signed in January this year. Tariffs on Taiwanese auto parts, timber, and related products exported to the United States will be reduced to no higher than 15%, with the policy taking effect retroactively from May 1.

The Investment MOU also covers high-tech industry investment and supply chain cooperation. The public is watching whether the United States will further expand preferential measures for Taiwan and how Taiwanese investment projects in the United States will promote future Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade cooperation.

U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Extension Looks Possible, but Trump Has Not Approved It Yet

The United States and Iran have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement on a memorandum of understanding to extend their ceasefire for 60 days. U.S. officials said both sides have made progress on several key issues, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and arrangements for future nuclear negotiations.

However, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that differences still remain over details such as the handling of highly enriched uranium. The document has also not yet received final approval from President Donald Trump. The international community is closely watching whether the ceasefire can be extended and whether tensions in the Middle East can continue to ease.

Medical Beauty Clinic Privacy Scandal Grows as Ministry of Health and Welfare Prepares to Release Violators List

The controversy over suspected secret recording at medical beauty clinics continues to expand. Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare said it has inspected 1,090 medical beauty clinics across the country so far, and 41 clinics were found to have violated regulations. The latest inspections identified six additional clinics in Taipei, Taoyuan, and Chiayi City. The ministry plans to publish the list of violators in its Medical Aesthetics Information Section next week for public access.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said violators may face fines of up to NT$500,000 and suspension of operations for six months. Authorities will continue inspections to protect patient privacy and medical safety.

McDonald’s Raises Prices Again as Customer Retention Becomes the New Battleground for Fast Food Brands

McDonald’s announced on May 19 that it would raise prices for some menu items starting on May 27. The price increases will affect value meals, breakfast sets, and some side dishes and drinks. The average price increase will be about 1.3%. Among them, value meals will increase by up to NT$5, while the prices of main items ordered separately will remain unchanged.

Industry analysts said that the fast food industry has gradually shifted from competing mainly on price to focusing more on membership programs and digital services. As operating costs continue to rise, businesses must find a balance between raising prices and keeping customers. As a result, increasing customer loyalty and spending has become a more important competitive strategy than simply adjusting prices.

Afraid to use public restrooms? It might be Shy Bowel Syndrome!

Many people prefer to hold it in and wait until they get home to use the bathroom. In medicine, this phenomenon is called “Shy Bowel Syndrome”. Researchers point out that for these individuals, the issue is usually not about hygiene. Instead, it is a form of social anxiety where they fear being judged by others.

Holding it in for a long time causes stools to harden, leading to chronic constipation. It can even result in hemorrhoids or other fatal risks. Doctors suggest that to maintain bowel health, people should limit their time on the toilet to under six minutes. It is also important to consume enough fiber and avoid straining.

Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.

  • The United States has begun offering tariff relief to Taiwan, a move that could strengthen bilateral investment, supply chain cooperation, and future economic ties.

  • The United States and Iran are moving closer to extending their ceasefire, but key disagreements and final approval from President Trump are still needed before a deal can be reached.

  • The medical beauty clinic secret recording scandal continues to grow as authorities investigate violations and strengthen patient privacy protections.

  • As fast food prices continue to rise, brands are focusing more on customer loyalty and digital services to stay competitive while managing growing costs.

  • Shy bowel syndrome is often caused by social anxiety rather than hygiene, but ignoring it can lead to health complications like chronic constipation.

In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
