Taiwan Approves Record Supplementary Budget, With NT$400 Billion in Financial Support for CPC and Taipower
The Executive Yuan approved a NT$607.6 billion Central Government supplementary budget Proposal on September 3, the largest in Taiwan’s history. More than NT$400 billion will go to CPC Corporation and Taipower through capital increase and energy price subsidies, helping reduce the impact of rising oil, natural gas, and electricity prices on the public.
The supplementary budget also includes NT$145.7 billion to strengthen national defense, along with funding for social welfare, government employee pay, and post-disaster reconstruction. However, the budget still needs to be reviewed by the Legislative Yuan, and opposition parties have said they will closely examine spending on CPC Corporation and unmanned vehicles.
Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant Restart Plan Nears Approval, KMT and DPP Clash Again Over Energy Policy
The Nuclear Safety Commission said the restart plan for the Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant has entered its final review stage and is expected to be approved soon. However, the plant must still complete equipment preparations and safety reviews on aging and earthquake resistance before it can receive an operating license.
The restart process has also sparked political debate. The Kuomintang criticized the government for changing its non-nuclear policy, while the Democratic Progressive Party said nuclear power must still meet requirements on safety, nuclear waste, and public consensus. Approval of the restart plan is only the first step, and the actual restart date will depend on later reviews.
Iran Attacks U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf Again, Wedding Airstrike Sparks Controversy
Iran said on September 3 that it had attacked U.S. military bases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The Kuwaiti military said it had intercepted missiles and drones from Iran, while the UAE denied that any military base in the country had been attacked.
Iran also accused the U.S. military of carrying out an airstrike on a wedding on September 1, killing five people and injuring more than 50, and vowed to retaliate. The United States said it was investigating the claim and stressed that U.S. forces would never target civilians, while expressing serious doubts about Iran’s account.
ChatGPT Shopping Hits the Brakes, OpenAI Shifts Checkout to Third-Party Platforms
OpenAI has recently scaled back its plan to let users shop and book travel directly inside ChatGPT, and the transactions will instead be completed through partner platforms. The reason is that many users use ChatGPT to research products, but still choose to place their orders on other platforms.
Foreign media said AI shopping still faces challenges such as product integration, transaction responsibility, profit models, and consumer habits. The change also reduces concerns that platforms such as Booking and Expedia could be replaced, showing that AI is currently better suited for helping users search and compare rather than replacing the entire transaction process.
Looksmaxxing
Starvemaxxing and Bonesmashing to Look Better? Looksmaxxing Spreads Among Western Men
In recent years, Looksmaxxing has become popular among young men in Europe and the United States. They treat appearance as a tool to change their lives. They believe that becoming taller, stronger, and more sharply defined can help them escape the “loser” label and succeed in dating and social competition.
This trend reflects some young men’s insecurity about their appearance and self-worth. It also gives influencers opportunities to increase anxiety and sell courses. Some men even turn to starvemaxxing, bone-breaking surgery, and bonesmashing. Experts warn that self-improvement should not be based on self-hatred or dangerous behavior.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Taiwan approved a record NT$607.6 billion supplementary budget, including more than NT$400 billion to support CPC and Taipower, but the plan still needs to be reviewed by the Legislative Yuan.
Taiwan’s Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant restart plan is nearing approval, but the plant must still pass several safety reviews before it can resume operations.
Iran attacked U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf and vowed revenge over an alleged U.S. airstrike on a wedding, while the United States said it was investigating the claim.
OpenAI is scaling back direct shopping and hotel bookings in ChatGPT, showing that AI is currently better suited for product research and comparison than replacing the full transaction process.
Looksmaxxing is pushing some Western men toward starvemaxxing, bone-breaking surgery, and bonesmashing, while influencers profit from their appearance anxiety.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
