Will the U.S. Strike Iran Again Before the Elections? U.S. Military Ordered to Prepare
The Pentagon has ordered U.S. Central Command to prepare for possible large-scale military operations against Iran, although President Trump has not yet decided whether to launch airstrikes. If military action begins, possible targets could include Iran’s energy facilities, key infrastructure, and nuclear facilities. With U.S.-Iran talks making little progress, Washington is keeping military options ready, raising concerns that the conflict could escalate again.
However, both the U.S. and Israel are approaching elections, so military action now could also affect politics in both countries. If Iran retaliates, regional tensions could rise and oil prices could increase, putting more pressure on people’s daily lives and the economy.
September CPI Rises Again, Food and Energy Costs Climb
Taiwan’s CPI rose 2.73% in September from a year earlier. Heavy rain pushed up fruit and vegetable prices. At the same time, higher global oil prices also increased transportation costs, while electricity and dining costs continued to rise.
Fruit and vegetable prices may fall as supplies recover, but dining costs have risen more than 3% for four straight months, and once they go up, they tend to stay high. This means that even if CPI growth slows in October, people may still feel that everyday living costs are high.
Salary Transparency Expands! Jobs Paying Under NT$50,000 Must Disclose Pay
Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor plans to revise the law by raising the salary disclosure threshold for job openings from NT$40,000 to NT$50,000 per month. Since Taiwan’s median regular monthly salary is about NT$39,000, the new NT$50,000 threshold is above the typical salary level and would cover more job openings. Job seekers could compare salaries before interviews, while lower-paying job openings may find it harder to attract workers.
As salary information becomes more transparent, current employees may find out that new hires are being paid more and ask for raises or even leave. Companies may then have to review internal pay gaps and their overall pay structures.
Haidilao’s Premium Service Is No Longer Unique, Making High Prices Harder to Accept
Haidilao once stood out by offering birthday celebrations, manicures, shoe cleaning, and other premium services. Customers were also willing to pay more for these experiences. But as competitors began copying them, what once felt special became more common, while the high costs remained.
As these services became less able to justify higher prices, customers started caring more about value for money. Younger consumers, in particular, would rather skip noodle pulling performances or manicures if prices were lower. Haidilao now faces a dilemma: cutting too many services could weaken its brand, but keeping them at a high level makes costs difficult to reduce.
The Psychology Behind Rage Bait, Why Does It Make Us Want to Respond?
“Rage bait” uses provocative or controversial content to encourage people to comment. Humans are especially sensitive to anger and conflict, so this type of post can make us want to argue back. Whether people support or criticize the post, more interaction can give the creator greater exposure.
Even worse, algorithms may treat comments as a sign of interest and recommend more similar content, creating a cycle of getting angrier the more we see. To break the cycle, the best approach is to respond and interact less. This avoids giving rage bait more exposure and prevents algorithms from misunderstanding what we actually want to see.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Possible U.S. military action against Iran could raise regional tensions, push up oil prices, and influence politics in both the U.S. and Israel.
Rising food and everyday living costs are keeping pressure on household budgets, even if Taiwan’s CPI growth begins to slow.
Greater salary transparency could help job seekers compare opportunities while also pushing companies to rethink pay gaps within their workforce.
Haidilao’s challenge shows that premium service only works when customers still believe it is worth paying more for.
Rage bait works because anger drives engagement, and every reaction can teach the algorithm to show you even more of it.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
