Foreign Investors Sell a Record NT$302.5 Billion, TSMC Reports Strong Earnings but Taiwan Stocks Plunge

Taiwan’s stock market plunged 1,655 points on October 15, marking the sixth-largest closing drop in history. Foreign investors sold NT$302.5 billion more in Taiwan stocks than they bought that day. TSMC reported strong earnings after the market closed, creating a sharp contrast with the day’s steep market decline.

The sell-off was mainly driven by higher-than-expected U.S. inflation and weakness in technology stocks, which increased risk-off moods in the market. Analysts say foreign investment flows are an important indicator for Taiwan stocks, but higher trading volume or a short-term rebound does not necessarily mean the market has bottomed out. This also highlights how global capital flows and market sentiment can affect Taiwan’s stock market.

Patriot Missiles Run Out, Ukraine Struggles to Stop Russian Ballistic Missiles

CNN cited a source on October 15 saying that Ukraine has run out of U.S.-made Patriot interceptor missiles, weakening its ability to defend against Russia’s continuous ballistic missile attacks.   Recent Russian attacks on energy facilities in Kyiv and Kharkiv have also raised concerns about gaps in Ukraine’s air defenses.

Patriot missiles are expensive, and global supplies are also very limited. Zelenskyy has therefore asked the U.S. for more missiles and said Ukraine will not stop attacking Russian energy facilities until it receives more. This has further increased tensions between Zelenskyy and the Trump administration.

Chinese Exchange Student Poses as if Pinching Lai’s Head, Entry Permit Could Be Revoked

During President Lai Ching-te’s visit to National Taiwan University on October 12, an exchange student from Nanjing took a forced-perspective photo that made it look like he was pinching Lai’s head. He later posted it on Tik Tok with the words “Little Lai Ching-te? Easy” and other messages supporting unification. He later deleted the post and apologized.

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council confirmed on October 15 that it had received a complaint and is investigating the case. Under current rules, Chinese nationals who engage in inappropriate behavior that violates the principle of mutual respect during exchanges in Taiwan may have their entry permits revoked and be barred from entering Taiwan for a certain period.

Basecamp Doesn’t Rely on Overtime, It Protects Uninterrupted Work Time

Basecamp’s founders believe 40 hours a week is enough to produce good results. If work does not get done, the problem may not be a lack of working hours. Instead, meetings, phone calls, and different tasks can break up the day, leaving only a few hours for truly focused work.

That is why Basecamp has removed status meetings and asks employees to post updates online instead, protecting longer periods of focused time. Rather than extending working hours, companies should reduce unnecessary work and interruptions, because one uninterrupted hour of focus can be more valuable than four separate 15-minute periods.

Burn More Fat Than Running! Build Better Fitness with Rucking

Carrying weight while walking burns more calories per kilometer than simple walking or running, effectively burning fat. It simultaneously trains the legs, core, and upper body, boosting muscle strength, endurance, and bone capacity.

Carrying food, tools, or children over long distances was once a crucial human capability. However, with the popularity of cars, suitcases, and shopping carts, modern people carry weight far less often. Today, this ancient activity is being rediscovered as a simple and practical full-body workout.

Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.

  • Taiwan’s stock market plunge shows how global economic uncertainty and foreign investors’ decisions can shake the market, even when major companies like TSMC report strong earnings.

  • Ukraine’s shortage of Patriot missiles is weakening its air defenses and increasing pressure on the U.S. to provide more support.

  • A Chinese exchange student’s forced-perspective photo of him pinching President Lai Ching-te’s head has sparked an investigation and could lead to his entry permit being revoked.

  • Basecamp shows that protecting uninterrupted focus may improve productivity more than simply working longer hours.

  • Rucking burns more fat than running and builds functional fitness, offering a powerful, natural way to improve overall health and endurance.

In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
